It was mid-winter break in NYC this past week and the weather was beyond beautiful, especially for February. Being able to get the kids outside and enjoy the sun on my face took my mind off the world’s perceived turmoil and put it back on my own here and now. This mix keeps that in mind with both modern and vintage psychedelia, heavy grooves and funky soul.
Dig new tracks from The Falling Birds, Winstons, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, The Savage Blush, Sundays & Cybele, Baked and so much more.
Put the earbuds in, find a warm spot and enjoy!

Gotta get a grip, people. Gotta stay grounded. Here’s how I do it.
Vintage treats galore from funk to punk and new stuff from Ty Segall, The Falling Birds, Winstons. Plus a smattering of garage, psychedelic, hard rock and more from recent decades. It’s a wild mix full of everything from grit to bubblegum, but it can help ease the stress and keep your mind straight.
Eyes up and stay cool out there, folks.

As I witness the world in what seems like one hell of a transitional period, and after witnessing the same pattern in my own life, it seems prudent to do some pre-spring cleaning. So here you go, all the songs that have taken a backseat and haven’t made it into a set this year. Surprisingly coherent, always potent. Clear your head and rock on.
This week I paid a small tribute to the late Dave Pike at the top of the show, then settled in to a set of warm folk and blues. All this led to my interview with local Brooklyn band The Falling Birds ahead of their CMJ show at the Black Bear in Williamsburg (10/17, $5 cover) and their upcoming UK tour. I talk with Dave & Steve about how they got started, their new EP and what it’s like in the NYC music scene. Enjoy the show, and check them out at TheFallingBirds.com.
