Back at our old BBOX Radio stomping grounds, Frank Ramos, Tony Conquerrah and I reunited for an all-vinyl special of summer sounds from rock, disco, funk, world, psych and more. Ideal for throwing windows open and getting the neighborhood involved. SWEAT BABY SWEAT
There have been a lot of dismal things about this year but it’s almost over and there have been some damn fine musical releases. In my top five are a couple of classic blues-rock records, some newer releases from my favorite labels, and some local Brooklyn boys. Enjoy and share!
- JuJu – s/t (2016)
- Fanny Adams – s/t (1971)
- Chocolat – Rencontrer Looloo (2016)
- Spooky Tooth – Spooky Two (1969)
- The Frightnrs – Nothing More To Say (2016)
After a great Split The Decks episode a couple of months ago, Tony Conquerrah’s back and filling in as guest host while I’m out of town.
Our nation is upside down once again with racial violence and more questions than answers, and Tony’s here to bring some light to the darkness with an all-vinyl mix of everything from to jazz, soul, funk and calypso, ska and reggae. He’s a goddamn pro (taught me more than a few things) and it shows in this phenomenal set.
Tune in and get some soul healing. As the man said himself, “…that’s the beautiful thing about music. Music erases all borders and it doesn’t matter where you’re from. You feel it and you know it.”

It’s time for another edition of Split The Decks!
Two selectors, two decks, all vinyl. I play one, they play one. Repeat ad infinitum.
This time my old BBOX pal and host of Shanty Town, TonyConquerrah, hopped on the second deck for a hot Hot HOT session ranging all across the funk spectrum.
Disco, soul, roots reggae and funk. If you’re gonna crank anything out of an open window this summer, this mix is IT!

Life’s hard enough without it being gloomy all the time, but this spring in NYC has been cold, rainy and windy so far and I needed to clear my head. So another 3 hour special was in order, filled with warm psych and a dash of soul and heavy riffs.
Along with the vintage fare keep your ears perked for new tracks from King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Kikagaku Moyo, Mondo Drag, Amerikan Bear, New Planet Trampoline, local boys KDH and lots more.
Have a great week, spring’s on it’s way….?

Goddamn do I love Halloween. It’s not about dressing up and pretending to be somebody else for me, though. It’s something about exploring a darker side, and I’ve always been fascinated by the human urge to try and fool or beg the dark forces into showing mercy during the long night of winter. Plus, y’know, it gives me an excuse to play more fuzzy, heavy music. Which I did.
Enjoy a sludgy mix of heavy metal, weird psych and some of those older garage tunes. Plus some campfire tales from the legendary Vincent Price. Slap together a costume and party tonight, but don’t forget to save a little booty for bribing those dark forces.
If this promo doesn’t make you wanna listen, I don’t know what will…

After a friend mentioned the new format would be perfect “lazy Saturday music” I decided to start this week’s show off mellow and build up to the hard stuff. On our second foray into mixing new and old there’s a lot on the table. From local Brooklyn rockers (The Tye Trybe, The London Souls) to more standard fare like the Rolling Stones and Black Sabbath, it’s a feast for the ears. Dig in and fill up.

I’m on the last leg of my vacation, so no theme tonight. Just a random selection of cool vintage tunes that I love! See you again live at the BBOX studios in two weeks…
…here’s that sweet Spreaker link…
