All-vinyl show this week!
It’s been a couple months. There’s dust on the mixer, my finger’s heavy on the FX knobs. I’m working out the kinks, trying out new things. Keeps you young.
I won’t be winning any gold medals for this one but you can hear fresh tunes from The Rubs, Buffalo Killers, All Them Witches, The Evil Usses, Bonehawk & JuJu. There’s also a heaping helping of vintage soul and rock to help stave off the weight of our world’s depravity.
I’ll be spinning vinyl as Freelance Fiend at El Cortez in Bushwick this Thurs 10/19. Come hang out if you like. Click the flier for more details…

It’s been a rough couple weeks with so much violence and hate spread across this country and the world. Are we sliding toward the edge? I don’t know, but I’ll do what I always do: try and provide some relief through music.
This week I have new tunes from Dustin Lovelis, Colemine Records, Heaters, Lost Kingdoms, Missiles Of October and more modern biz to keep you current alongside some real vintage gems. And of course, a nod to the recently departed legend Tom Petty.
Take a minute to look around and if you see someone slipping, lend a hand and pull them up.

This show was finished before the events in Las Vegas this week, but the first half of the show is geared towards catharsis for rough times so I hope it helps if only in a small way.
Lots of vintage and new soul as a nod to the late, great Charles Bradley. Plus new tracks from All Them Witches, Chicano Batman, and NYC folks The Fluids and Ancient Ocean.
Keep trying to bring some love and light into the world.

Such a mixed bag this week with nods to Marc Bolan’s being gone 40 years and the departures of Harry Dean Stanton and Husker Du’s Grant Hart, just as a start. Then settle in for sonic rumination on creativity, living in the now, planning for the future, and what love can do a person. Y’know, all the stuff songs are always about.
Dig in, trip out. Have a great week.

The chatter in our information age feels intolerable.
On one hand, it brings to light issues that’ve been ignored for too long. On the other hand, it doesn’t seem like our minds are meant to process information this fast. Who could blame you for feeling overwhelmed?
Much love to folks in Houston this week. Here are some tunes to stop thinking about things for a couple hours.

For the first time in a long time the U.S. put aside differences for a brief moment to watch the sun go dark. A cosmic event and a moment for reflection on where we fit in to the world and beyond. It didn’t last long but it was nice to know so many people were enjoying something together.
The title of this week’s show reflects the cynicism that creeps back in after such moments, and as we move forward I thought we could explore the recent sounds of psych, garage and more. Every song in this set was made after 2014, with many being new releases this year. Hope you enjoy, and that this can suffice as another small moment where we enjoy something together.

Join me as I sit down with Brooklyn’s Cinema Cinema (in a very breezy room) and chat about their new album, what influences their experimental leanings, life on the road in Europe and much more. Peppered throughout you’ll hear heavy tunes from local NYC rockers and worldwide sonic experimenters!
The band’s latest release, “Man Bites Dog,” is available in all formats at CinemaCinemaBand.com

Putting together a weekly two-hour show takes time and just a wee bit of inspiration. Sometimes you’re running short on both of those, and you have to throw it together. Here’s to the folks cramming it in before the finish line.
(P.S. I’m spinning rock n roll 8pm to midnight at Robert Bar in Brooklyn on July 19th. Come on down if you’re in NYC and say Hi!)

I love vintage rock but there’s a bunch of new rock in the underground as well and I really enjoy sharing both with new ears.
That’s the goal on Weds July 19th, 8pm – 12am at Robert Bar (104 Bond St in Brooklyn) where along with their menu of great custom cocktails I’ll be slinging Old Time Religion fare live on the decks. Classic psych and rock alongside their newer counterparts. Come have a drink and let’s bang heads, shall we?
Back in early 2013 I started my live stint on BBOX Radio and met, among many creative and cool people, these two badasses. Over the years Tony and Frank have filled in, co-hosted and teamed up with me live and since we’re all on different stations now we decided to team up again for an all-vinyl summer session.
Wanna join in? All you gotta do is attune to our old stomping grounds, BBOXRadio.com, on Saturday July 15th. We’ll be spinning all sorts of wax in the summer heat, starting at 10pmEST and going til we get tired.

The OG comedic Batman series sits in the back of my head always, a huge cultural touchpoint of the silliest caliber that anyone with a tv from 1966 to 1996 has probably seen and noone ever forgets. Rest easy, Adam West. This episode is peppered with a few of his most ridiculous clips.
Music-wise there’s a lot of vintage tracks that go on for a bit, plenty of room to stretch out with soul and funk, and a focus on some of the modern outliers that have come my way but not gotten much attention so far. The idea behind this one is transition, of taking the time to register your own changes in nature. Good luck!

It was a good week for vinyl but another messed up week in the world.
Nothing but wax this week, pulled from a ton of pre-orders arriving in the mail and a fun trip to the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair. New stuff from Riding Easy Records’ “Brown Acid” kicks it off, along with new releases from Hydromedusa, Sharkmuffin, and two from Greenway Records. Of course there’s also a nod to Chris Cornell’s untimely passing. To top it all off there’s a hearty helping of soul and funk to heal your worried mind and move your worried hips.
Keep it weird.
Keep it loud.
Keep the faith, Manchester.

It’s been another busy week and here in NYC spring has hit a cool spot, ie we’re stuck at 60 degrees and below. It’s throwing people off, it seems, and the vibe has been a little…wild?
That’s the mood going in to this week’s mix, an all-vinyl amalgam cobbled together from the WFMU record fair, BOMP records mail-order and some neglected piles already in my collection (plus a slightly tipsy tape echo). Reflections on feeling rough and how that’s okay, and stepping up despite the trouble everywhere you look. Perhaps this set can help you revive, reset, or rekindle some fighting spirit to keep pushing on til the weather clears.

Apparently spring’s arrival has me in the mood for pops and crackles because all I wanna do is spin vinyl right now. Much like my recent KPISS appearance (thanks again to Sheri and to Tony for bringing the heat) and last week’s show, this week is all-vinyl and almost no talk. It’s a weird and warm just like spring in NYC, hope that it adds something to your sunny day and if it does, tell a friend!

Bad weather’s bearing down on NYC this week so I’m bringing the psychedelic vibes to cushion the blow. This set starts out with a shout out to badass women then heads into the atmosphere with some extended tracks and FUZZ FOR DAYS!
Featuring the premiere of the new White Mystery single plus brand new music from Stuyedeyed, Baked, The Black Doldrums, Dire Wolves, Sundays & Cybele, & the Black Delta Movement. And of course the blend of vintage and modern fuzz you’ve come to expect.
Bundle up, put your back to the wind and prepare to be blown away!
