The veil is thin between worlds and as a guide for souls on either side I’ve teamed up with my good pal Frank Ramos (https://www.mixcloud.com/frankramos1232/) and my fellow UK broadcast cohort Atom Heart Mutha (https://www.mixcloud.com/hrhatomheartmutha/) for a scary good Halloween special as the Freelance Fiends.
There’s some new stuff and some old stuff but the focus is providing mood music for your night’s wicked adventures.
Have fun. Stay safe. Get weird.

The OG comedic Batman series sits in the back of my head always, a huge cultural touchpoint of the silliest caliber that anyone with a tv from 1966 to 1996 has probably seen and noone ever forgets. Rest easy, Adam West. This episode is peppered with a few of his most ridiculous clips.
Music-wise there’s a lot of vintage tracks that go on for a bit, plenty of room to stretch out with soul and funk, and a focus on some of the modern outliers that have come my way but not gotten much attention so far. The idea behind this one is transition, of taking the time to register your own changes in nature. Good luck!

Last Thanksgiving weekend my friend Frank Ramos and I decided to combine our shows for an extended aural trip we dubbed “Split The Decks” and we liked it so much we’re giving it another go.
The rules are simple: Neither of us knows what the other one is bringing, there’s no set theme, and we switch decks back and forth making selections based on the previous song.
This time we went through a wide range of funk, classic rock and pop, post-punk and even experimental ambient. Both musical explorers in our own right, Frank and I aren’t afraid to get a little weird and this set’s variety showcases that very well. Something for everyone!

Oh, man, did I have fun hanging out with these guys. A hard rock band that’s been on the NYC scene for nearly two decades, The Giraffes are known for their wild live shows and their unique, fast-and-furious studio offerings. We played a few cuts from their influences (which are remarkably varied) and talked about the changing music scene in New York City and all the history they’ve been through together. Watch out for hard riffs and salty language, it’s the goddamn Giraffes!
Just the talky madness:
Due to tech difficulties I couldn’t videotape the whole interview, but here’s a peek:

We’ve been watching him for years. As he laid performance after performance out for all to see, his songs accompanying all manner of moments across our lives. When David Bowie passed on last week I was shocked, but as the week wore on I was also taken aback by the immense outpouring of grief and love directed towards the man himself and his work. Two hours isn’t adequate, but it’s all I had so here goes…
Special thanks to my pal and BBOX cohort Tom Ragu for coming by and contributing a special mix for today’s show!
