Back at our old BBOX Radio stomping grounds, Frank Ramos, Tony Conquerrah and I reunited for an all-vinyl special of summer sounds from rock, disco, funk, world, psych and more. Ideal for throwing windows open and getting the neighborhood involved. SWEAT BABY SWEAT
Back in early 2013 I started my live stint on BBOX Radio and met, among many creative and cool people, these two badasses. Over the years Tony and Frank have filled in, co-hosted and teamed up with me live and since we’re all on different stations now we decided to team up again for an all-vinyl summer session.
Wanna join in? All you gotta do is attune to our old stomping grounds, BBOXRadio.com, on Saturday July 15th. We’ll be spinning all sorts of wax in the summer heat, starting at 10pmEST and going til we get tired.

No doubt about it, for those of us born before the turn of the century this new digital age is a strange time, indeed. The world seems on the verge of a cultural shift, for better or worse, and as my own life is shifting also I do what I always do and explore those parallels with music. As usual plenty of classic rock, garage, psychedelic, punk, soul, and heavy blues from all eras!
We’re heading down the final stretch of one bitch of year. Let’s ride it out together, shall we?

The late Greg Lake wrote the song “Lucky Man” when he was 12 years old, about a man at the end of his life that was mourned by many. 2016 has been a hell of a year for that kind of story, and this last stretch has seen many creative lives cut short.
On today’s show I pay tribute to Lake and others, with a nod to the closing of long-running art spaces GLOB and Rhinoceropolis in Denver where I was lucky enough to spend some of my younger days rocking out and getting weird. Much like my younger self, this set starts out smooth and then gets real loud and rowdy.
As the world grows a little scarier, please take some time with me to soothe your nerves and then get them raw and ready for action again with one hell of a show.

One hell of a mixed bag in store for you today, dear listeners. Bits and pieces leftover from a wild week in my life and the world’s madness, cultivated to make you feel like a real person again in the midst of all this “post-truth.”
Vintage and modern psychedelia, blues, garage and soul awaits.
Turn on & get re-tuned.

Last Thanksgiving weekend my friend Frank Ramos and I decided to combine our shows for an extended aural trip we dubbed “Split The Decks” and we liked it so much we’re giving it another go.
The rules are simple: Neither of us knows what the other one is bringing, there’s no set theme, and we switch decks back and forth making selections based on the previous song.
This time we went through a wide range of funk, classic rock and pop, post-punk and even experimental ambient. Both musical explorers in our own right, Frank and I aren’t afraid to get a little weird and this set’s variety showcases that very well. Something for everyone!

So many aspects of 2016 have been a punch in the gut, and as the year draws to a close there are some folks that warrant a respectful nod. This week’s all about dealing with it, with tunes to help you get through the madness. Nods to the late Sharon Jones, Leonard Cohen, Leon Russell and Mose Allison plus others that have fallen. On the bright side there are some fresh Beyond Beyond is Beyond releases by Sam Kogon and Chocolat. Selections from the bands I’ll be supporting at the next Garageland event as well. Plus a variety of tunes to bang your head to in lieu of banging it against the wall.
We’ll make it through this year stronger than before. Hope this helps.

It was my great pleasure after this long and maddening week to have the enthusiastic Brooklyn blues-rocker Casey Hopkins in the studio this week. All blues-adjacent tunes graced the decks along with some funk and garage on the side, and Casey and I jawed about where he’s from, where he’s going, and everything in between.
Special nod to the late Leonard Cohen, one of Canada’s finest and the latest in a line of greats we’ve lost this year. Rest easy, Leonard.
Casey and I will both be at Garage Land (at Good Room) Wednesday 11/30 along with Paul Collins (The Beat, The Nerves), David Strange, Skunkmello and Lord Youth.

Get out the greasepaint, squeeze into some leather and latex and get ready to bang your head this Halloween!
I’m a big fan of big riffs but don’t always get to go as heavy on the live show, but with Halloween on the horizon this episode is the exception. Tune in for a 3 hour HEAVY special featuring vintage heavy blues & proto-metal and modern tracks ranging from blues to doom, all with riffage in mind! And I couldn’t pay tribute to riffs down the ages without paying special tribute to Riding Easy Records so look out for a lot of their artists in today’s lineup.

Melding vintage and modern music to create a soundtrack for an embattled nation this week. Starts out mellow with psychedelic mind trips and soul beats interspersed with rock riffs to lift you out of the current madness we’re all entrenched in.
Attune and get lifted!

The turmoil of 2016 continues and as we all try not to get swept away I’ve prepared a mix to help keep you grounded. Lots of vintage grinders mixed with a twist of soul and psych, and new stuff from The Well, DeWolff, Thee Oh Sees and many more heavy lifters. This madness is almost over, let’s bang our heads and shake our hips together til the storm passes.
Don’t forget! You could help nominate OTRRH for Mixcloud’s “Best Rock Show” in their 2016 Online Music Awards. Voting closes on Tuesday 10/18, Click here for details…

It’s a long one, so I split it into two parts:
Back in June of 2012 when I started Old Time Religion as a podcast to send to my friends, I never thought it’d last this long. All of the music discovered and friends to share it with over the last four years have enriched my life in a lot of ways, and I’m glad to meet up with all of you each week and jam to some great music.
This week’s special runs the gamut: Four hours of vintage tracks from all genres and modern bands bringing the old sounds into the present and beyond. Every label I’ve shouted out is represented here, and no matter your taste there’s something to tickle your fancy. Hell, maybe you’ll find you had a ticklish spot you didn’t know about.
Thanks for the support these last few years, and here’s to hundreds more shows spent with you!

Started off with some smooth funk and soul this week, then a little softer with blues and folk building to an aural crescendo chock full of big riffs. Fresh tunes, vintage goodies and every trick in between.
New biz from Beyond Beyond Is Beyond, Thrill Jockey, Sunrise Ocean Bender, Riding Easy Records.
Go on, now. It’s all right.

Summer’s winding down, school’s back in session and I’m ready to make some noise! Lots of raucous vintage psych and classic rock this week plus all sorts of new loud stuff from all corners of my collection, including a peek at the new Brown Acid compliments of Riding Easy Records.
Attune to get back in the grind without losing your mind!

So much music and so little time! Since we have an extra day in our weekend here in the U.S. I thought a three hour special was in order. Focusing on mostly rock, with a special emphasis on new stuff from my favorite labels. Along with the normal vintage fare, look out for treats from the Beyond Beyond Is Beyond, Stickman, Dizzybird, Stolen Body, Magnetic Eye, and Riding Easy imprints. Covering all angles from breezy to heavy, it’s the perfect soundtrack for the discerning rocker basking in backyard leisure. Have a great weekend, enjoy and share!
