WARNING: Prolonged exposure to modern America may result in media fatigue, depression, anxiety, confusion, cognitive dissonance, mood swings and even death.
Relief can be found via many methods, but allow me to offer this humble remedy. Vintage rock gods and soul soothers. Modern fuzz. Plus brand new tunes from White Mystery, Our Solar System, Captain Suun, The Death Wheelers and more.
It may only be a temporary respite from our long slide into madness but it may just help you get your grip.

Welcome to the first episode of Old Time Religion to air on Brooklyn’s The Face Radio! Big love to Kurtis Powers (who also got the show on at Affinity Radio) for having me, and to all the listeners new and old who join in each week.
This week’s gonna sound familiar to my long time listeners. It’s a primer for the new ears, a mix of all the old and new punk, psych, stoner, funk and more that defines Old Time Religion. Old stuff, new stuff, damn good stuff. Enjoy, and welcome!

Love is often intense, messed up, wonderful, unforgettable, complicated.
That’s not today’s theme per se but it’s the theme of 95% of all songs so close enough.
Come get summa this lurve.

Welcome to 2018!
Everyone has so many plans, predictions, resolutions and such that it’s easy to feel hemmed in. Like you’re in a corral with nowhere to go. As it is with all the good innovators, though, you have to take a look to either side. Look up and down. Find the weakest point and plow right through.
Here’s a list of weirdos, psychos, rabble rousers and loud motherfuckers. Here’s to a new and better year.
Vintage and modern wildness plus brand new tracks from King Gizzard, Black Delta Movement, Korto, The Men and more.

There’s a bit of a pop tinge to today’s show as we explore grey area and mixed messages. There’s a national conversation right now about what’s right and wrong and where the lines lay, and as usual I use sound to navigate. Explored via psychedelia, funk, indie, and alternative from all eras.
As Curtis Mayfield used to say, check out your mind.

2017 isn’t over but I’ll be damned if there hasn’t been some great music so far. Here’s a bunch of tunes that came out this year to put you in the mindset of a truly modern human.
Strap in and take off!

Feeling a little stressed? The pills ain’t gonna help, not really. Let’s get the aural fix. The musical solution.
Among other things, we’ve got fresh releases from Dustin Lovelis, Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, Porno Wolves and some serious vintage riffery.
Good luck out there. Keep your head up.

Putting together a weekly two-hour show takes time and just a wee bit of inspiration. Sometimes you’re running short on both of those, and you have to throw it together. Here’s to the folks cramming it in before the finish line.
(P.S. I’m spinning rock n roll 8pm to midnight at Robert Bar in Brooklyn on July 19th. Come on down if you’re in NYC and say Hi!)

Back in early 2013 I started my live stint on BBOX Radio and met, among many creative and cool people, these two badasses. Over the years Tony and Frank have filled in, co-hosted and teamed up with me live and since we’re all on different stations now we decided to team up again for an all-vinyl summer session.
Wanna join in? All you gotta do is attune to our old stomping grounds, BBOXRadio.com, on Saturday July 15th. We’ll be spinning all sorts of wax in the summer heat, starting at 10pmEST and going til we get tired.

Weeks and weeks of my kids bringing home every possible combination of illness finally caught up with me and I’ve been bedridden with the most awful flu I’ve had in years. Loathe as I usually am to run repeats it’s a necessity this week but don’t worry! I’ve chosen one with all the fire and spirit needed to keep your head about you in our time of collective absurdity!
From classic rabble-rousers like John Lennon, AC/DC & Creedence Clearwater Revival to new dissenters like Sam Kogon & The Resonars, many voices heard from here. Plus new (at the time) releases from the Beyond Beyond is Beyond & Sunrise Ocean Bender labels and a premiere from King Gizzard. All the tunes to keep your upper lip stiff in the face of this insanity.
You can find the full playlist here, and I’ll see you next week with a brand new episode on Affinity Radio!
After last week’s super-heavy Halloween show I needed a break from heavy metal, so this week’s a grab bag of vintage and modern soul, psychedelic, garage and a heavy nod to the film Velvet Goldmine at the beginning. Dig in and get down!

What is it about summertime that brings out the wildness & weirdness in Americans? These last weeks have seen some huge changes and controversies: The horrible shootings in SC & the continuing racial violence in the South surrounding that damned flag; the cloak & dagger feel surrounding the Trans-Pacific Partnership; the landmark ruling making marriage legal for LGBT Americans…if you’re not talking about civil rights this summer then you just aren’t paying attention.
…for the Spreaker peeps… Continue reading #1524: Love Is A Doggone Good Thing
