#1723: Last Minute

Putting together a weekly two-hour show takes time and just a wee bit of inspiration.  Sometimes you’re running short on both of those, and you have to throw it together.  Here’s to the folks cramming it in before the finish line.

(P.S. I’m spinning rock n roll 8pm to midnight at Robert Bar in Brooklyn on July 19th.  Come on down if you’re in NYC and say Hi!)

#1721: Changes In Nature

The OG comedic Batman series sits in the back of my head always, a huge cultural touchpoint of the silliest caliber that anyone with a tv from 1966 to 1996 has probably seen and noone ever forgets. Rest easy, Adam West. This episode is peppered with a few of his most ridiculous clips.

Music-wise there’s a lot of vintage tracks that go on for a bit, plenty of room to stretch out with soul and funk, and a focus on some of the modern outliers that have come my way but not gotten much attention so far. The idea behind this one is transition, of taking the time to register your own changes in nature. Good luck!

#1720: Lord Of Garbage

“This isn’t about what is . . . it’s about what people think is. It’s all imaginary anyway. That’s why it’s important. People only fight over imaginary things.” – Neil Gaiman

#1719: Switch Opens

A rough week for losses in the rock world. This week has a bit of a country & blues tinge to it in honor of the late Gregg Allman and also a highlight of the bands playing this week’s Chris Cornell tribute brought to you by Rocker Stalker and myself (info below.) Still plenty of garage and psych nuggets for you to sink in to. Have a great week and keep it LOUD.

#1716: Riff Raff

It’s been another busy week and here in NYC spring has hit a cool spot, ie we’re stuck at 60 degrees and below. It’s throwing people off, it seems, and the vibe has been a little…wild?

That’s the mood going in to this week’s mix, an all-vinyl amalgam cobbled together from the WFMU record fair, BOMP records mail-order and some neglected piles already in my collection (plus a slightly tipsy tape echo). Reflections on feeling rough and how that’s okay, and stepping up despite the trouble everywhere you look. Perhaps this set can help you revive, reset, or rekindle some fighting spirit to keep pushing on til the weather clears.

#1715: The Way Down (feat. Skunkmello)

My guests this week are the fellas from blues-rock band Skunkmello. They were nice enough to have me over to their rehearsal space in midtown Manhattan as we talk influences, tour experiences and new material in the pipeline. Scattered throughout you’ll hear classic and modern blues influences and enough guitar licks to keep any gearhead happy.

Let me know what you think on Twitter: @OTR_RadioHour and here’s where you keep up with all things Skunkmello:

#1711: New You

Back on track finally after being too sick to put a show together last week, and as I had to recover slowly this episode starts out a little mellow and then builds up to the full cacophony. New music from The Falling Birds, Elkhorn and White Hills and all the vintage gold you don’t know you love yet. Thanks for hanging with me, hope you dig the tunes!

Remember, next week there’s a lot happening:
– Sunday April 9th, Old Time Religion takes over KPISS.fm in Bushwick for an extended special, 3-7pm EST

-Monday April 10th, I’ll be guest-hosting The Rodent Hour with special guests Cinema Cinema 8pm EST on Radio Free Brooklyn.

-Tuesday April 11th, Brand new episode on Affinity Radio 5pm EST/10pm UK
