#1822: Argue Til We Die

2018’s been a little divisive but one thing’s for sure, a LOT of music has been released. Reissues, lost recordings, collections, and of course fresh material from old favorites and new. This is a small selection of what’s crossed my path so far in 2018. Some you’ll recognize, some you won’t, but it’s a wild ride. A fitting soundtrack to this mad year.

Keep it weird. Keep it LOUD.

#1821: Condition Your Condition

It’s a mad mad mad world but you can’t easily control what people do, you can only control what you do yourself. I, for instance, play records. It helps a little.

It’s all vinyl today with a blend of hard rock, alternative strangeness, high psych, and some protest songs near the end. All mixed to keep you moving, keep you going. Take a minute or two, take care of yourself.

The World’s Mad and I Just Wanna Listen to Panic Blooms and Sex & Food

Modern anxiety and brinksmanship have reached peak levels it seems, and two recent albums have captured our current balance of hope and worry perfectly for me.

Both released earlier this year, Black Moth Super Rainbow’s “Panic Blooms” and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s “Sex & Food” really do it for me.  Each under their own power is good, but I think they’re better together.  They’re the alternate soundtrack to San Junipero. They’re a Black-Eyed Soul opera in three acts.

I’ve done the work for you, if you wanna hear my impressions click “read more”->

#1819: Getting To Me

As James Brown said, we’re dealing with a very critical and crucial time. Aside from the overwhelming big picture there are plenty of folks out there who find their own personal picture too much to look at all at once. This mix is for those folks. For everyone, really.

It’s an all vinyl exploration of the dark inner places and their accompanying emotions and sentiments, presented without presenter interruption so you have plenty of room to stretch. If it helps you feel better, that’s great! If you’re still not okay, well, it’s okay to not be okay. I’m here to help you ride the wave.

#1818: REWILD!

Oh we make the standards and we make the rules
And if you don’t abide by them, you must be a fool
We have the power to control the whole land
You never must question our motives or plans

We’ll outlaw your voices, do anything we want
We’ve nothing to fear from the nation
We’ll kick you out your houses if you get too much
If we have to, we’ll destroy your generation
We’ve built up a frontage and we’ve gained respect
There’s no one to endanger our position

Standards rule OK

-The Jam

#1817: Feeling The Effects

WARNING: Prolonged exposure to modern America may result in media fatigue, depression, anxiety, confusion, cognitive dissonance, mood swings and even death.

Relief can be found via many methods, but allow me to offer this humble remedy. Vintage rock gods and soul soothers. Modern fuzz. Plus brand new tunes from White Mystery, Our Solar System, Captain Suun, The Death Wheelers and more.

It may only be a temporary respite from our long slide into madness but it may just help you get your grip.

What’s That Sound? The Glucks – Run Amok

My first taste of Belgian rock duo The Glucks was at the hands of a fan of the show by the name of Lansing Rawls.  He sent me a link to their 2016 LP “Youth On Stuff” and once I heard the title track I was immediately turned on by the raw breathless vitality of it.  Now they’ve followed it up with the equally potent new release “Run Amok.” Continue reading What’s That Sound? #1814: Fade Me Out

I live in NYC and there’s a lot of noise here, but it’s nothing like the noise on the internet and in the media that’s drowning out all rational thought. Here are some wild sounds to wipe away all the garbage and give you room to clear your head.

Vintage rowdiness and brand new tunes from Sun Voyager, Netherlands, Riding Easy Records, Ten High, Secret Colours, The Left Outsides, Beyond Beyond Is Beyond and many more.

#1813: High Tension Wire

It’s easy to get a little high strung in these uncertain times. You need a little release, fingers plucking the strings. Allow me to provide some catharsis.

New releases from White Mystery, Nova Flares, Stephen Bailey (Mt. Mountain), Sun Voyager, The Bonnevilles, Rat Scabies and a LOT more.

Let’s get loose.
